Five SEO top tips to help you conquer Google …

25 Aug 2011

Did you know that the top 3 places in Google take over 70% of all hits?  If you have a website you need to ensure it is search engine optimised – here’s the top 5 tips to help you on your way …

1. Content is King

Google loves to see interesting and fresh content and the bottom line is that websites with good content will rank higher than those with poor content.  If you are an authority in your field, ensure this is portrayed within your site with good content and Google will find you!

2. Browser and H1 Page Titles

As with any piece of writing a title should announce what the content is about and this is no different on the web. Browser page titles need to be relevant, descriptive and unique.  You should always try to include a single H1 heading on each page too.

3. Unique URL’s

As with the page title, the page URL should be relevant, unique and Google-friendly. The URL should help Google understand what the content on your page is all about.  www.mysite.com/cycle-parts.html is much better than www.mysite.com/index.php?product_category=53

4. In Bound Links

In bound links are the stairs up the Search Engine Ranking ladder. A link is seen as a vote of authority by a search engine. The more incoming links (votes) you get, the higher the sites’ authority and therefore the higher up the ranking you will appear!

5. Google Places

If you haven’t claimed your Google places page, do it NOW!

Google holds an internal directory of most companies and it expects you to claim your page.  The Google places page can help you to rank within local searches without spending scrupulous amounts of time, money and effort. Go to www.google.com/places and claim your listing now.  Once claimed complete the information until you get it to at least 90% complete.
